Sylvia Jackson Wilson is the head of the Social Studies Department at Greater Atlanta Adventist Academy.  As a certified learning styles trainer, Ms. Wilson is not only responsible for teaching students but also for teaching teachers “who have been stuck in a box”.  Her motto is “teaching and reaching the world”.  She is most proud of the unique and creative methods that she herself uses to make sure that every child “gets it”.  Spending most of her teaching years in a one-teacher school, Mrs. Wilson has proven that any child can learn if given the proper motivation, adequate skills, and self-confidence. Even in the toughest situations, she always makes one promise, “With God by my side, your child leaves here better than he arrived.”

Ms. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and History from Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL; a Master of Education in the field of Integrated Studies from Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA ; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Ashbourne University in London.

Ms. Wilson earned the North American Award for Teaching Excellence and the Crystal Award from South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as Woman of the Year for the State of North Carolina.   She has served as Director of Women’s Ministries for South Atlantic Conference, serving the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia since 1997. During her administration she has founded and established several caring ministry programs for both women and children.

Ms Wilson knows that people who truly feel good about themselves become better people and that success comes in “cans” rather than in “cannots”.  She takes these beliefs into her teaching and into her ministry.  She works daily on her job and in her volunteer work to build self –esteem in others, to improve communities, and to redirect those who wander. Some of her responsibilities include:

  •    Director of Women’s Ministries of South Atlantic Conference

·      Board of Directors at JLMI PC Foundation

  •     President of Rosetta C. Baldwin Foundation

·      President of Small Steps Foundation.

·     Member of American Historical Association.

·     Associate member of Vietnam Veterans of America

·     Southern Union Women’s Council

·             Georgia Volunteer 4-H Leader

Sylvia Wilson enjoys traveling, speaking, gardening, and camping.  She lives in the Metro-Atlanta area with her daughters but visits rural North Carolina often to ensure the preservation of its history, culture, and integrity.
